There are usually three common types of job interviews and these are:
1. Traditional job interview: The traditional job interview also called one to one job interview is most common type of job interviews mostly conducted by organizations of all types whether large corporations or small and medium sized business enterprises. In this type of job interview, a company representive or Human Resource Manager or an officer of the position for which the candidate has applied to, interviews the candidate or job seeker.
Where the candidate is selected for the job, then in such a case the interviewer may be his/her immediate boss or in charge. In this type of job interview, the interviewer would like to access the job skills of the candidates’ to see whether the skills match the job requirements. The candidates’ in this type of interview may be asked questions about their resume, work experience and what they can offer to the company and to the job position.
2. Panel job interview: Panel job interviews are becoming a common phenomenon in case of large organizations, government departments and Multinational companies where the candidates’ are interviewed by three to four interviewers. The panel may consist of representatives from different departments of the company such as human resources, engineering, management and some senior level employees. Each member of the panel may be responsible for asking the candidates’ questions that represent the relevancy from their position. Panel job interviews save the time of the organization by getting a collective opinion of the panel regarding the candidate.
3. Group job interview: Companies usually conduct group job interviews to quickly pre-screen the candidates for the job opening and giving the candidates a chance to learn about the company to see if they fit in with company’s work ethics and culture. Group interviews begin with a brief presentation about the company and after that, the HR-managers may speak to each candidate individually and ask them a few questions. The main purpose of a group interview is observing the concerned candidate’s interaction with the other candidates. It also shows whether the candidate has any leadership and team building skills.
